The
word yoga may be translated as "to unite". Yoga unites body, mind and spirit
through the synchronicity of movement and breath. Hatha yoga can be
interpreted as "yoga for the body" and it consists of the
asanas (the physical postures/exercises) and pranayama (the breath
work). Yoga is both a science and an art; a joyful blend of grace
and strength. It is a wonderful celebration of spirit, as well as,
an amazing way to exercise the physical body. Yoga sessions can range
from very gentle to quite challenging. Most people will benefit tremendously
from even the most basic of yoga postures.
Performing
the postures with correct alignment helps to strengthen the body,
increase flexibility, stoke the metabolism, normalize blood pressure and blood sugar, relieve stress, enhance spinal health, deepen
sleep, improve posture, calm the nervous system, and quiet the mind
enhancing clarity and focus.
Private
instruction is a wonderful way to get started if you are a novice
and also an invaluable tool for established practitioners as an aid
toward deepening your practice and developing a personal daily yoga routine.
The more often we visit the mat the more richly we reap the plentiful
