Restorative
yoga induces a state of deep relaxation through supported yoga
postures. It alternately stimulates and soothes the organs,
as well as, gently opening the joints and passively stretching
the muscles. The external body and the internal organs are fully
supported by props such as blankets, bolsters, pillows and blocks in restorative
yoga.
Each
restorative session moves the spine in all directions because
science and collective wisdom teaches us that a healthy spine
enhances well-being. Supported inversions are included as appropriate
for the client to reverse the effects of gravity upon the body and gently enhance
heart function. Restorative yoga is wonderful to enjoy anytime
one needs to decompress, it can be especially healing after illness
or injury and during stressful times. Some may choose to enjoy
this relaxing, therapeutic practice weekly, other clients occasionally
request a restorative yoga session in place of their active workout
when they feel frazzled, stressed or tired.
Most
health conditions and diseases are causally connected to or at
least exacerbated by stress. The antidote to stress is relaxation,
which is different than watching tv or even sleeping. Sleep includes periods of dreaming
and muscular tension. The relaxation one experiences during restorative
yoga is a state where there is no movement, no effort, the nervous
system is calm and the brain is quiet so the body can deeply relax.
I specialize in yoga therapy for diabetes management, general
stress disorders, nervous system disorders, high blood pressure, body aches, infertility,
prenatal care and premenstrual syndrome. |
